There is a taboo in the mills application that in milling machines, which is generally it can not be done along the cutter axial feed motion, but is recommended to along the radial to do cutter feed motion. But if you change the processing mode, you can also cut deep into the tool along the Z direction. The common feed is as follows:
(1) Using the drill hole and process feed. Firstly use a smaller diameter drill to make hole, and then the Z mills vertical depth of cut to feed.
(2) Using a spiral feed methods. Three-axis CNC milling machine can achieve feed spiral, making a smooth transition to Z natural feed and the contouring, which generally does not produce machining marks, therefore, this approach has been widely used.
(3) Slash feed methods. Slash manner using three-axis feed, the use of cutting edge end face milling cutter, thus avoiding the involvement of the central part of the cutting tool. But the downside is that this approach can not be achieved as Z direction feeding, and the contour of a smooth transition, which is prone machining marks.
