Keyway cutter is very similar with vertical cutter in the outer shape in cnc milling machine. It is a two edged knives and no center hole in the face, the teeth is from the end face of the outer opening to the axis, the helix angle is generally 30 °. The end cutter teeth is of high strength, so the teeth of the cutting edge of the end face is the main cutting edge, the cutting edge of the cylindrical surface is the secondary cutting edge. Different from the vertical mills, the key way milling can have movement in axial direction and the radially feed. 

    Because it is of only two edged groove cutter, so the rigidity is not as good as the vertical mill cutter. However, the cylinder diameter precision and tolerances are very strict, the  overall accuracy of the cutter is high, which also makes use of the key way in the closing round keyway milling cutter and to choose the same keyway cutter diameter, the diameter of the precision with cutter ensure the accuracy of the keyway. When the vertical milling machine tools are not complete, we can do more content with keyway milling and processing, such as flat, grooved, profile and so on. This method is often for beginner students that have not high requirement in milling machining accuracy.
